2026 STREE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
The Township is planning to do 2 Different Street Projects in 2026. Nether project involves assessments, they are both being funded 100% by township street improvement funds. These two projects alone total approximately $1,000,000.00 If we include other smaller projects we are planning to do or have already done in 2026 we are spending approximately $2,000,000.00.
The largest road project is to preform repairs to street soft spots, some culvert replacement, clearing and grubbing, reclaiming existing asphalt (grind up and reuse as aggregate base), shaping and grading the reclaimed asphalt material, placing a new street pavement, placing aggregate shoulder and restoration, on Mentzer trail (shared City/Township Street east of B242 St.), South Beach/Bethel Grove (292nd St., Mentzer Trl., Melody Ln.) Garland Hills Plat 2/3 (279th St., Nester P1, Nester Ave, Nester Ct.)
Other projects are paving the hill on Northland Court, Scrub Sealing and Fog Sealing-Nordgarden Rd, 261st Street and Kodiak Ave., and 242nds Street. Also there has been crack sealing and pothole repairs being done on Several of our roads.
The township had over 2,000 tons of lime-rock put down on various roads along with chloride.
Have had several trees and brush cleared along road right-of-ways.

Construction Start Notice
2026 Street Improvements
Garland Hills 2nd/3rd Areas (279th St, Nester Pl, Nester Ct, Nester Ave); South Beach /
Bethel Grove Areas (292nd St, Mentzer Trl, Melody Ln)
The 2026 Street Improvements involve:
Reclaiming existing asphalt and repaving project streets
At the May 2026 Township meeting, the Board decided to move forward with this project and awarded the
work to the low bidder, Knife River Corporation from Sauk Rapids, MN. The work on the project streets is paid
for with Township funds.
This construction notice is to inform the residents that the start of construction in your neighborhood is
scheduled to begin as early as the week of July 27, 2026, weather permitting. There will also be advisory
signs placed along the roadside approximately 7 days before construction starts. The project is anticipated to
last around 8-9 weeks and is expected to be done in late October/ early November 2026, weather permitting.
What are some of the specific project work items?
Performing repairs to street soft spots
Some culvert replacement and clearing and grubbing.
Reclaiming existing asphalt (grind up and reuse as aggregate base).
Shaping and grading the reclaimed asphalt material.
Placing a new street pavement.
Placing aggregate shoulder and restoration.
Paving Private Driveways
Some residents ask if the contractor will pave private driveways. This work is not part of the
Township’s project. The township asked the contractor, Knife River Corporation, at the
preconstruction meeting if they are interested in paving private driveways. Because of their current
workload, they indicated they are not interested in doing that private driveway work at this time.
Residents will need to work with their own contractor if they want to pave their driveways.
General Resident Information
It is anticipated that mail or garbage service will not be disrupted during this project.
Access to your driveway and house should be available most of the time. If access is temporarily
blocked, it generally will be less than 60 minutes before you will have access again. If you see the
contractor working in your area and you need to leave shortly, you can speak with the on-site
inspector or contractor for accommodations.
When culvert or street repairs are being done, the Contractor will be restricting traffic. There may be
times when you need to wait for paving equipment or trucks hauling material.
Construction work is generally interesting to children. However, in an effort to ensure their safety, we
ask for your cooperation in keeping the children away from the work area and equipment at all times.
Also, remember that construction equipment has many blind spots. Please keep a safe distance from
all equipment, especially while it is in operation.
We realize that this construction will impose some inconvenience and appreciate your patience and
understanding.
